The Federation of Neighborhoods presents “Athens Prosperity Package” a free public forum on Monday, June 10 from 7:30-9:00pm in Ciné Lab Space. Listen and ask questions of panelists about the proposed “Athens Prosperity Package” and learn how it could impact citizens through anti-poverty initiatives. The “Prosperity Package” is a proposal that will allocate $4 million towards reducing poverty in Athens-Clarke County.

The panelists will be ACC District 9 Commissioner Ovita Thornton and ACC District 10 Commissioner Mike Hamby, who are the proposers of the initiative, joined by ACC Mayor Kelly Girtz. They will provide overview of the main features of the package whose parts include in health care, child care vouchers, landscaping/repair job skills training, minority business development, second chance education and job placement for former inmates, youth summer jobs, neighborhood planning, area redevelopment, grant writing, and minority non-profit development support. The panelists will also respond to audience questions on these aspects, how they are to be developed and implemented, where the proposed $4million dollar budget will come from, which groups are included and which are excluded, how non-profits and other entities might participate, and what role citizen engagement will play.
