The Federation of Neighborhoods presents a forum on active shooter readiness in Athens-Clarke County, on Monday, March 19 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at Cine. The panelists will provide information about the challenges and imperatives in dealing with this public safety issue.
In light of the tragic shootings at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida recently–and remembering many prior deadly attacks around the country–what can we in ACC do to be personally prepared, to protect ourselves and our families, students, co-workers and fellow citizens? How can we modify our habits and behavior to reduce vulnerability? What can we do if we learn of or observe dangerous or suspicious activity? Who or what is the proper line of reporting for us? What can local officials and first responders share with us, regarding their readiness to face the possibility of an active shooter or other deadly threat in this community? There is a UGA emergency alert system, a statewide severe weather warning system and an Amber alert system: what is the community-wide mechanism for something like an active shooter situation?
